Home

I arrived in Homer about eight years ago on a whim, not knowing much about the community and not having a place in the world that felt like home. I quickly realized Homer was it—the place I didn't even know I was looking for.

The grind

Throughout the years, I've worked seasonally all over the state of Alaska (mostly on boats) but returned to Homer for the winters. All the while, playing soccer and ultimate frisbee at the SPARC, coaching youth soccer, volunteering and skiing at the Ropetow, backcountry skiing in the mountains, hiking and backpacking in our State Parks, surfing our frigid waters, mountain biking our local trails, skateboarding the spit, ice fishing and ice skating wild lakes, commercial and sport fishing countless Alaskan waters, climbing at the Bay Club, and myriad other indoor and outdoor sports & activities that we have available to us in these abundant lands. Alaska prompted several of my favorite hobbies. I didn't have the exposure or the access to them as a child and didn't even start skiing until I was thirty!

Adventure

For the last several winters, I lived in a converted school bus with my dog, Chago. Living in a bus teaches you to live pretty minimalistic. Although I owned few things, I still had a storage unit to house the gear I needed for all my extra curriculars. I think many people in Alaska, like myself, choose to prioritize the things that keep them active. Fortunately, when I began to explore, I had friends willing to lend or give me the gear necessary. I am eternally grateful for this and want to share that gratitude with others and pass it on. My favorite thing about Homer is the vibrant community we are so lucky to be a part of, and I'm honored to contribute in a positive way.
